This year we added potatoes to our garden without taking up any additional garden space. We tried a potato tower, just planting the seed potatoes around the periphery of a tall cage, in rich compost. It worked out pretty well!
Jeremy disassembling the tower.
Pretty optimistic about the harvest right away! See them taters in there?
Len and Ern helped us to hunt out taters.
A modest but delicious harvest. Probably about a third had to be tossed because of pests, but we still had plenty to eat of three different kinds. We would up with about four meals worth of potatoes for the family, and enough to keep for seed next year.
Breakfast and Cinderella were happy to help us redistribute the compost afterwards.
